How to help

We would not be able to help these children without the generous support of people like yourself, for which we are very grateful. Our monthly budget, which you can see here, is currently 120,000 Kenyan Shillings or £920. Half this amount is needed for food, about a quarter for salaries, and the rest for clothes and running costs. We are particularly grateful to those of you who sponsor our children by giving a small regular amount every month. Sponsorship gives us a regular monthly income that helps us to plan and budget, which is very helpful. However, we do not yet have enough sponsors to meet the monthly target of £920. If you would like to help by sponsoring a child, you can find more information on how to do that below.

We work hard to keep our expenses to a minimum so that as much as possible of your money goes directly to providing for the needs of the children. Apart from the live-in staff all our other helpers are unpaid volunteers, administration is kept to a bare minimum, and we grow as much of our own food as possible.

From time to time we are in need of additional amounts to enable us to expand our facilities. This year, for example, we have been able to install secure fencing and an alarm system, and provide extra tuition for the children. We also need to build more toilets, and in the longer term we would like to build accommodation so we can start taking in girls.

If you would like to be part of what we are doing for the children of Elburgon, you can support us by sponsoring a child by making a small monthly donation, or by making a gift to the home.

Sponsoring a Child

You can sponsor a child by making a regular monthly donation of only £20. We will then link you with one of the children in our home and will send you a picture of the child and some background information. You can contact your child by writing to him if you wish, and the children are encouraged to write back. By sponsoring a child you will be able to keep closer contact with our work and see the benefit that your giving is producing. Tell me more about sponsoring a child.

If you would like to sponsor a child please download and print a child sponsorship form. The completed form should be sent to our UK address.

Making a gift to the home

If you would like to make a regular or one-off donation to the work of our home and you live in the UK, please download and print a donation form. The completed form should be sent with your donation to our UK address. Cheques should be made payable to Talents Children's Mission.

If you are a UK Tax payer, you can make every gift worth 28% more at no extra cost to you by completing the Gift Aid Declaration on the donation form. Tell me more about Gift Aid.

If you do not live in the UK you can send your gift directly to our Kenya address. Cheques sent to Kenya should also be made payable to Talents Childrens Mission. We do not recommend posting cash to Kenya as foreign mail is sometimes opened.

In the UK the appeal for Talents Children's Mission is made by Lakeside Christian Fellowship Trust, registered charity No. 1103430.

Water delivery

Kenya has been suffering from a drought for many months and both our wells have run dry so water has to be bought and hand carried to the home. We need 50 drums of water each day at 7 KSH per drum (about 6p). We would like to sink a borehole to provide a more reliable supply of water, but this is very expensive because it has to be mechanically dug and fitted with expensive pumps.
